Preparing

Bow season! Very few things on the calendar do I anticipate more. In the coming days, I will return back to my old home in North Idaho and venture into God’s beautiful creation in search of the elusive elk. It’s where my soul recharges, and I draw close to God in ways I just cannot do when surrounded by concrete. The anticipation of going and preparing all of my gear gets my heart going. The last few weeks, I have spent many evenings in my backyard shooting my bow in […]

Focusing On The Wrong Things

The old stump in front of me looked like a good place to sit down and sulk. I had hiked dozens of miles in the six days prior, traversing some very difficult terrain. We were nearing the end of elk season, and so far the elusive wapiti (native American name for elk) had whipped me good. I had several near encounters, even called two different elk in for my dad, but he missed them both. It was 11 am, and I only had one day of bow season left to […]

God calls us to be rooted in love.

You have picked up by now that I love to talk about God’s creation. Whether it’s a vineyard or a herd of elk, I love it. So many lessons abound if we will take the time to look. Knowledge Does Not Equal Growth

Technology today allows almost any person at any time to access volumes of knowledge via the Internet. This technology I find useful in many areas of life, even when prepping for a sermon. But finding commentary and interesting historical facts for a sermon does not mean that I have applied the Scriptural principle in my life, though. Following my blog, you quickly learn I love the outdoors, […]

What Path Should I Take?

“Amen.” Tony and I finished our prayers, lifted our heads and looked at each other with great satisfaction. We had located the beautiful bull elk the Lord blessed him with that day. My great friend and hunting partner, Tony, had just harvested his first trophy elk, and I could not have been happier for my friend. We had worked hard and executed our strategy. Even more importantly, Tony had prepared himself by knowing which trail was the right one to stand on. By nine o’clock that morning, Tony and I […]

Significant Moments

Eye to eye, I stood staring at an 800 pound, beautiful bull elk. I still have no idea how the beast of an animal got within ten yards of me without making a sound. My bow was at my side, but the bull caught me so unprepared, the likelihood of getting a shot off without the incredible animal bolting down the hill were pretty much nil. My shoulders sunk with the disappointment, but the scenario got me thinking. God loves to take our journeys through life and expose us to […]
